With Brock Purdy out for the San Francisco 49ers' season finale against the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Kyle Shanahan has made his choice as to who will start at quarterback.

Earlier in the season, Shanahan went with Brandon Allen as the starter when Purdy was unavailable to face the Green Bay Packers.

But this time around, the Niners are going with Joshua Dobbs, who filled in for Purdy against the Detroit Lions after he left the game late in the fourth quarter.

Dobbs led an effective two-minute drive in his time on the field to cut the Lions' lead to 40-34, though the 49ers were unable to recover a dreadful onside kick from Jake Moody.

Shanahan indicated that the number of injuries on the offensive line was a big factor in his decision, with Dobbs a superior scrambler to Allen.

Dobbs last started on December 10, 2023 for the Minnesota Vikings in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders that saw him benched for former 49er Nick Mullens as the Vikings won 3-0.

As the 49ers look to finish a dreadful year on a high, Dobbs will hope to produce a much better performance than he did on that occasion and make a strong case for being kept around as a backup quarterback next season.
