Christian McCaffrey's absence with Achilles tendinitis loomed tremendously large on Sunday as the San Francisco 49ers slipped to 2-3 with a shocking defeat to the Arizona Cardinals.

Brock Purdy conceded to McCaffrey's injury playing a part in the 49ers' red zone struggles after they went one of six inside the 20-yard line in a 24-23 loss.

Having been placed on injured reserve following the season-opening win over the New York Jets, McCaffrey is eligible to be activated for the Week 6 clash with the Seattle Seahawks.

However, with the 49ers facing the Seahawks on a short week on Thursday Night Football, they have unsurprisingly taken the decision not to activate him this week, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirming as such in his Monday conference call,

McCaffrey will continue with his ramp-up process, ESPN's Adam Schefter having reported on Sunday that the Week 7 Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs is a possibility for the reigning Offensive Player of the Year.

The 49ers will also not activate rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who remains on the non-football injury list. Pearsall was the victim of an attempted armed robbery in San Francisco in August, which saw him shot through the chest.

In other injury news, Shanahan confirmed linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles is unlikely to play against Seattle having missed the loss to the Cardinals with a calf injury. Wide receivers Jacob Cowing (shoulder) and Chris Conley (oblique) are each day to day after sitting out on Sunday.

Shanahan, though, could provide no further details on the injuries to kicker Jake Moody (ankle) and Talanoa Hufanga (wrist).

Moody suffered a high ankle sprain and Shanahan revealed the 49ers have brought in four kickers for tryouts as they look to quickly find a replacement.
