Kyle Shanahan has rarely been one to mince his words, but the 49ers head coach managed to avoid cursing when asked about how he prepares his team for Thursday Night Football.

The 49ers face the Giants in their home opener on Thursday and, in his final pregame press conference on Tuesday, was asked about the challenge of getting his players ready on a short week.

His response was typically blunt, even though he managed to keep it clean.

Shanahan said:

"It's weird, we're throwing two days into one day, as a coaching staff, we throw two days into one day. So it's kind of a…. I'm at a loss for words when I can't swear up here. It's a something-show, as we do it, but then it's about retaining it when it slows down. Like we gotta put em' all [the players] through it, we just throw it all at them. We go and walk through it twice, we go watch it, and then it will slow down tonight when they leave, but that's usually about sleeping and catching up, and tomorrow, when you get to the hotel, is when it's normal even though it's not."

Few players and coaches enjoy Thursday games, though Shanahan, despite his apparent disdain towards them, does see one advantage in playing at night after a short week.

He added:

"I always love that Thursdays are night games because I think it's important on the day of the game to review your whole week. Which is the day before, on all the stuff that came in so you don't hesitate in the game."

While their defense struggled in the first half of the Week 2 win over the Rams, the 49ers have clearly been extremely prepared for each of the opponents they have faced so far, their point differential of plus 30 the second-highest in the NFL.

And with San Francisco 10-point favorites against the Giants in Week 3, the expectation is they will be ready for what New York is set to throw at them and that the Niners will improve to 3-0.

That is, of course, provided that the 49ers' preparations for the game weren't too much of a something show.
