The San Franscico 49ers know how to start any NFL game right. Walking out of the tunnel with a boombox, the players always took the field ready to compete. And it worked as they earned a spot in Super Bowl LVIII this past year.
So when No. 11 NC State got past No. 6 Texas Tech in the Round of 64, they were determined to keep going. And next up was No. 14 Oakland, which was the Cinderella Story of the entire March Madness Tournament after defeating No. 3 Kentucky.
Heading out onto the court for Saturday's game, NC State took a page out of the 49ers book. They had someone carrying a boombox as star player DJ Burns let the team.
It was pretty spot on. The 49ers should be proud.
Oakland did not go down without a fight against NC State, with the game being decided in overtime. The score was tied at 66 at the end of regulation, and it was truly anybody's game. There was so much on the line.
However, Burns, the NC State forward, was determined to keep the team's March Madness dream going. His six points in overtime allowed the Wolfpack to get the lead. And Oakland just couldn't come back from it.
Burns finished with a double-double in the win, recording a team-high 24 points along with 11 rebounds.
NC State will now face off against the winner of No. 2 Marquette and No. 10 Colorado. So let's see if they use the boombox walk out once again.
