Per The Score's Jordan Schultz, Ahkello Witherspoon, a former third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers, is signing with the NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams.
This marks Witherspoon's fourth team in as many seasons.
Witherspoon was one of general manager John Lynch's and head coach Kyle Shanahan's first draft picks. They drafted him with the 66th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and he wound up playing in 47 games (33 starts) over the course of his four seasons in the Bay Area. He racked up four interceptions (one was a pick-six) and 24 pass deflections. It wasn't enough for Lynch to re-sign him, however, and Witherspoon eventually joined the Seattle Seahawks during the 2021 offseason.
That didn't last long, however. The Seahawks traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers right before the 2021 season started. Injuries have since limited him to just 13 games over the last two seasons, since.
Witherspoon has a great chance to win a starting gig. The Rams' cornerback room doesn't have any proven starters, which leaves the door wide open for the former 9er to wreak some havoc on his old team once these two meet up in September and January.
