It would have taken a hugely unexpected turn of events for Nick Bosa not to feature for the 49ers in their season opener with the Steelers after signing his historic contract extension.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Friday that there were no such surprises as he announced Bosa, having been on the injury report as a resting player after ending his holdout, was among those cleared to play in Pittsburgh.
Bosa did individual work in his first practice ahead of the new season on Thursday. On Friday, he was finally back working with his teammates.
Asked for his assessment of Bosa's condition, Shanahan replied: "He looks exactly how we were expecting him to look. Looks ready to go."
He added: "We've got an idea of how we're going to use him. We think he'll do alright."
As for any kind of snap count for Bosa, Shanahan revealed that will be based on a judgement of the reigning Defensive Player of the Year's stamina.
Yet given the importance of Bosa, who racked up 18.5 sacks last season, to the 49er defense, it is likely the former second overall pick will still receive an extensive workload despite his long absence from the team.
The participation of two other starters is in doubt, however, as tight end George Kittle (groin) and cornerback Charvarius Ward were each listed as questionable on the 49ers' final injury report.
