Nick Bosa is entering the final year of the rookie contract he signed with the San Francisco 49ers back in 2019, but he's not worried about what comes next.
A popular topic this offseason has been when the 49ers plan on extending Bosa. There's zero doubt it's going to happen – Bosa is arguably the best player at a premium position. Teams simply don't let pass rushers like him walk unless there are circumstances at play that are completely out of their control.
It's not a matter of "if", but one of "when". And many are wondering if both parties will get a deal done before the start of training camp. That way, there are zero distractions and everyone can get to work.
Bosa told reporters Tuesday that he is confident a deal will get done and that he will get what he deserves when it comes to the monetary value of the contract.
In other words: Bosa knows he's about to get paid handsomely. And he knows it's going to happen very soon.
Bosa has 43.0 sacks since 2019, which is fifth-most among all defensive linemen and EDGE rushers. He's also tied for the fourth-most tackles for loss (56.0) and his 106 quarterback hits are second-most during that span.
All of that came with Bosa missing 14 games because of a torn ACL in 2020, as well. Who knows what his numbers would look like if that didn't happen.
And, obviously he was 2022's Defensive Player of the Year, as well as 2019's Defensive Rookie of the year. He also has three Pro Bowl nods and a first-team All-Pro nod.
The. Guy. Deserves. To. Get. Paid.
The 49ers need to go ahead and pay Bosa and they need to pay him well. He does deserve it, and, it would help them with their current cap situation. The 49ers currently have a little more than $10 million in cap room, but extending Bosa would open up even more room, thus, making the financial side of running the team a bit easier.
It's a no-brainer, at this point and like Bosa thinks, it should happen soon enough.
