49ers’ win over the Cardinals comes with a price they can’t afford after tests confirm what Nick Bosa knew immediately
The 49ers feel cursed.
The San Francisco 49ers have gone toe-to-toe with the injury bug like no other franchise this year. They have played games without stars like Brock Purdy, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and others. Yet, they sit atop the NFC West, undefeated at 3-0.
But Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals seems to have come with a back-breaking injury. During the game, Nick Bosa injured his knee and immediately looked towards the sideline and gave a thumbs down. There was some optimism regarding the injury this morning, but Bosa knew what happened, seeing it’s now the second time he has torn his ACL.
“Tests today showed that 49ers Pro Bowl DE Nick Bosa suffered a season-ending torn ACL during Sunday’s win over Arizona, sources tell ESPN,” wrote Adam Schefter on Twitter (X). “It’s a clean tear, but Bosa now will need season-ending surgery.”
49ers will be without Nick Bosa for the rest of 2025
Bosa is one of the few non-quarterbacks who can actually change betting lines. San Francisco is 57-28 when Bosa plays. Without him? They are just 6-12. He has battled injuries throughout his career, as this is the second ACL tear he has suffered, now in the other knee.
Bosa was already off to a hot start in 2025, recording two sacks and two forced fumbles before the injury. He has averaged just under 13 sacks per year in his career, and he is one of the better players in this league when it comes to purely rushing the passer.
The onus is now on Bryce Huff and rookie Mykel Williams. Huff was traded from the New York Jets this offseason, and Williams was the team’s first-round pick. San Francisco is better positioned than most teams would be to incur such a loss, but there is no replacing Bosa.
Time will tell if the 49ers can survive this one, but some players are too valuable, and that might be the case with Bosa.
