The future of San Francisco 49ers All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains uncertain.

It isn't clear whether Aiyuk will be traded as many now expect, the Niners having given him permission to speak with other teams and continuing to negotiate with the Pittsburgh Steelers, or if he will remain with San Francisco for 2024 at least.

But, amid all the speculation, the 49ers have made a move to boost their wide receiver depth.

The 49ers, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, are signing Robbie Chosen.

Formerly of the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals, Chosen has experience of the Kyle Shanahana offense having played under former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel for the Miami Dolphins last season. Chosen had a tryout with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason.

He has 30 touchdowns in his career, his best campaign in terms of receiving yards coming in 2020 when he had 1,096 for the Panthers in 2020.

Chosen's signing likely has little to do with the Aiyuk saga, as the veteran's presence will give the 49ers a much-needed extra option as they have felt the impact of injuries at the position, most notably to first-round pick Ricky Pearsall.

Signing so close to the season, Chosen will be seen as a long shot to make the roster. However, with his experience and some familiarity in the system, he could have a chance to make his case for a place on the practice squad.
