With no official practice report released until Wednesday, it's unclear what Devon Witherspoon's status for the Seahawks' season opener with the Rams will be.
But the signs appear to be pointing towards the rookie fifth overall pick making his debut in Week 1.
Witherspoon, who had previously not practiced since Aug. 7 because of a hamstring issue, was seen participating in Monday's practice.
As the media were only able to view a limited window of the practice, there was no insight on the extent to which Witherspoon participated in the session.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had previously cast doubt on Witherspoon's ability to play in Week 1.
Witherspoon is likely to play in the slot in his rookie season. However, the Seahawks also have Coby Bryant, who played nickel corner in 2022 but has spent much of training camp and preseason.
Bryant's presence, combined with the distinct possibility that Cooper Kupp — who does much of his damage from the slot — could miss the game for the Rams with a hamstring injury of his own, means there is little need to rush Witherspoon back.
However, Witherspoon's return raises hopes he will be able to make his first appearance for the Seahawks sooner rather than later. For a Seattle secondary that appears set to use its superb depth to present opposing offenses with a range of different looks, that is excellent news.
