The 2023 season opener for the Seahawks went far from expected. Not only did Seattle lose a game that they should've won, but they got blown out in most of the ways that matter.
Seattle got dominated on offense, something that should never happen to a team with this much firepower.
Part of this is due to the fact that Seattle's offense failed to click when it mattered, but the bigger issue on the day was that the defense couldn't stop anyone on the Rams.
It's not like the Rams had Cooper Kupp. It's not like Matthew Stafford had a lot of hype coming into the year.
There was a lot working against the Rams and their offense, yet they had two receivers go off for over 100 yards, and the leading receiver for the game was just a fifth-round draft pick that had been flying under the radar.
Puka Nacua had what could be the game of his career with ten receptions for 119 yards.
Breakouts happen, but two wide receivers breaking out for the Rams against the Seahawks shows just how much of a liability that secondary could be in 2023, and that is reason to start making adjustments immediately.
Hopefully this was just an instance of rust after the preseason, but it is fair to say that more work is needed before this secondary is set and ready to go.
Seahawks implode in second half to lose opener
That was messy.
