Recovery from ACL surgery can take up to a year. Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks never had any attention of being away from the field for that long.

"I just attacked the rebab from day one. I know people were throwing numbers around, in terms of what the return timetable would be. I just went off how I felt, and it’s been a great process of getting back," Brooks said on Tuesday as he returned to practice under seven months out from his operation to repair a torn ACL.

And there appears to be little doubt in Brooks' mind he will be in a position to achieve his goal of lining up Week 1, when the Seahawks face the Rams in their season opener.

"The way I’m feeling now, I think I would," said Brooks when asked in Tuesday's press conference about being ready for the regular season. "Will I play, I don’t know. We’ll see."

Brooks took part in a walkthrough on his return to practice and will now look to get his body ready for the physical toll of NFL football, though he will not do so by featuring in either of the Seahawks' two remaining preseason games.

"Get in football shape. That’s the biggest thing, getting conditioned," added Brooks. "Getting used to 12-play drives or six-play drives and running around in pads. Getting used to that feeling again is going to be the biggest part."

Brooks underwent part of his rehab alongside safety Jamal Adams, who is a little further away from making his return after tearing his quad in last year's season opener.

Head coach Pete Carroll said of Adams:

"Jamal looks like he's on his way back too. Again, we've got to get them not just where they can kind of get back out there, they have to be able to stay out there. That's why we are taking the time and making sure that hopefully when they return, they can stay returned… He's not quite as far along (as Brooks)."

Fifth overall pick Devon Witherspoon remains on the sideline with a hamstring injury, with Carroll saying it is "still going to be a bit" before the cornerback is back on the field.

Seattle won't rush it with Brooks, Adams or Witherspoon, but with the former clearly on the path to featuring Week 1, a back seven that has the talent to be one of the best in the NFL may well be at full strength by the time the Seahawks welcome the Rams to Lumen Field on September 10.
