On Thursday, Jamal Adams got the news he's waited almost a year to receive.

The Seahawks safety, who tore his quad in Week 1 of last season, passed his physical, clearing him to come off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and return to the field.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had indicated Adams would come off PUP earlier this week.

Seattle will not rush Adams back into the fold, with Carroll explaining the Seahawks would use the build-up time they have at their disposal to "get him in the flow".

He will join what is a deep and exciting safety room. The Seahawks added Julian Love, coming off an impressive 2022 with the Giants, to pair with three-time Pro Bowler Quandre Diggs. The Seahawks have also given nickel corner Coby Bryant snaps at safety in training camp and preseason.

Adams will likely not operate often as a traditional safety in the Seahawks defense. Instead, Seattle may look to focus primarily on the impact he can have close to the line of scrimmage.

With 9.5 sacks in 2020, Adams set the record for the most sacks by a defensive back in a single season in NFL history. He also added 11 tackles for loss and 14 quarterback hits that year.

Adams producing at the same level coming off a serious injury would be a difficult ask, but Carroll and the Seahawks will relish the chance to have him back on the field adding another potentially destructive dimension to an exciting defense Seattle hopes is on an upward trajectory.
