Jason Myers robbed of winning Super Bowl LX MVP, carrying the Seahawks to big win over the Patriots
Seahawks kicker Jason Myers made history in multiple ways in the Super Bowl, and somehow, he still wasn’t named Super Bowl MVP.
The Seattle Seahawks have reached the NFL mountain top by officially being crowned the winners of Super Bowl LX.
The Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 to win Super Bowl LX. Not only are they celebrating this win, but they have also avenged the franchise’s heartbreaking loss to the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.
The team’s victory is, of course, the top priority for every player in the Seahawks locker room. However, running back Kenneth Walker is also celebrating the prestigious honor of being named the Super Bowl LX MVP. While Jason Myers won’t receive the trophy because of his position, many believe he should have.
Jason Myers should have been named the Super Bowl LX MVP over Kenneth Walker
Myers has been a weapon for the Seahawks all year long. He attempted the most field goals in the league in the regular season (48), and 41 of them were through the uprights. He was a perfect 3-for-3 in the Seahawks’ two playoff games ahead of the Super Bowl. To top it off, he passed LaDanian Tomlinson for the most points scored in a single season, including the playoffs, with 205.
In the big game, he was masterful, making all five of his field goals and both of his extra point attempts. His five field goals set a new Super Bowl record. 17 of the Seahawks’ 29 points were scored off Myers’ foot. He outscored the Patriots all on his own in Super Bowl LX, who only scored 13 points.
A kicker had never won the Super Bowl MVP ahead of tonight’s game. Myers’ performance in Super Bowl LX should have been enough to earn him the distinction of becoming the first ever. Instead, he was robbed in favor of Walker. The running back finished with 161 total yards, 135 of which were on the ground.
He was by far the Seahawks’ best offensive player, but what Myers did was historic. He had the best kicking performance in a Super Bowl that the NFL had ever seen. He built the Seahawks’ lead with field goals by scoring the first 12 points.
Sadly, he didn’t end the night as the first-ever kicker to be named Super Bowl MVP. It also probably means we can safely assume we will never see a kicker do it.
