John Schneider decided to trade away DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. At the time, it didn’t look like a huge win for the Seattle Seahawks, but now the general manager looks like a genius in more ways than one after WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a huge game on Monday Night Football.

According to the Seahawks PR Team, JSN became the second player in franchise history to record three straight 100-yard games, and his five 100-yard games this season are tied for second-most in franchise history. And, per Brady Henderson of ESPN, JSN’s eight catches for 123 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans puts him at 819 receiving yards this season, which is the most over a seven-game span in Seahawks history, over Steve Largent’s 757 in the 1984 and ’85 seasons.

Schneider traded away Metcalf, knowing that it would fully unlock JSN. Now, he’s looking like a star and one of the NFL’s best players. Not to mention, another decision Schneider made looks pretty good, too.

Seahawks may have the best duo in the NFL in JSN and Sam Darnold

Who is to say this offense, which looked pretty bad on MNF and they still scored 27 points, is as good as it is with Metcalf in the rotation? It feels like JSN is at his best, and the offense is at its best, when it revolves around him and gives him the freedom to be the guy. Then you give JSN a quarterback who can get the ball to him whenever he’s open — or even when he’s not — and it’s a perfect fit.

Darnold had a few bad plays on MNF against an elite Texans defense, so we won’t act like he was perfect. However, he has been one of the best quarterbacks in football this season, especially in the NFC. He showed that at the most crucial times Monday, getting the ball to the best player.

The offense looks as elite as it does now, with so much room for improvement, because of Schneider’s genius moves. And, don’t even get me started on the defensive side of the ball. The Seahawks let it be known that, even on a bad day, they can still be a team that fights for a top seed in the conference.

At their best this season, they can be a Super Bowl contender — JSN and Darnold are the biggest reasons why on the offensive side of the ball. The Seahawks will hit the bye week now, at the perfect time, before they go on to play the Washington Commanders on a primetime TV game, and then two NFC West games against the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams.
