The Seattle Seahawks offense will look a lot different during the 2025 season. And that will start at the quarterback position.
On Friday night, the Seahawks traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a third round pick.
It's a complete reversal from what Seahawks head coach Mike MacDonald said in an interview with FOX 13 TV in Seattle in February.
"Geno's our quarterback," MacDonald said. "I don't understand the conversation. It's pretty obvious this guy is a heck of a quarterback. He's our quarterback. We love him. Can't wait to go to work with him."
However, something else got in the way.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz further reported that Smith requested a trade on Thursday night because the two sides couldn't come to an agreement on a long-term extension.
So for Smith, it's a reunion with his former coach, joining Pete Carol in Las Vegas.
But, there was another trade proposal that the Seahawks actually started.
The MMBQ's Albert Breer reports that the Seahawks "opened trade discussions with the Raiders with this blockbuster proposal—Geno Smith and DK Metcalf to Vegas for Maxx Crosby." Las Vegas immediately said no to that idea and made it clear that Crosby was not available.
While that didn't work out, a deal was ultimately able to get done and the Raiders got their veteran quarterback. As for MacDonald and the Seahawks, they have some work to do this offseason.
