The Seahawks returned to the practice on Tuesday following the tragic passing of former running back Alex Collins, whom head coach Pete Carroll remembered for his "great sprit"

Collins died on Monday at the age of 28 as a result of a motorcycle accident.

He was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round in 2016 and returned to the team in 2020 following a spell with the Ravens. Collins last played for Seattle in 2021.

Carroll said:

"It's just a heart-crushing loss for Alex Collins to be gone. He was a beautiful kid and a wonderful competitor, but it's the person we'll miss the most. He had a great spirit about him, he was fun as heck. It's just so unfortunate for his family and for all of us to have lost him. I wish there was something we could do. It's a heartbreaker."

Asked for his favorite memories of Collins, who scored five touchdowns for the Seahawks, Carroll recalled his Irish river dance celebration.

"When he got really excited, he'd start doing his dance," said Carroll. "It was a big deal to him, and he lit everybody up whenever he broke into it. That's one of the fun things we remember about him."

Having played for the Seahawks so recently, there are plenty on the roster and the staff who knew Collins personally, and they have been supporting each other.

"We've all just been talking about it, sharing the suddenness of the impact of a loss like that," Carroll added. "We're just kind of helping each other out; we're doing all right."

Collins played in 25 regular-season games for Seattle. He also featured in three playoff contests for the Seahawks.
