Quandre Diggs has at least two more seasons with the Seahawks, but he may have a future as an NFL insider after breaking a significant piece of news on the first day of training camp.
Diggs beat all the national reporters and beat writers to the punch as he revealed on Monday that he had agreed to restructure his contract.
The three-time Pro Bowl safety posted on Twitter that he had converted his 2023 salary into a bonus.
NFL Media's Ian Rapoport struggled to come to terms with missing out on the scoop.
It is a move that will clear some cap space for a Seahawks team that still has some moves to make as they prepare to try to contend in NFC in 2023.
The Seahawks still have to sign two of their top three draft picks, Devon Witherspoon and Zach Charbonnet, to their rookie contracts and have a space on the roster to sign another player to take them to the 90-man roster limit.
Prior to Diggs' decision, the Seahawks had a little over $7 million in cap space, per Over The Cap. Now, they will have a little more room for maneuver.
Under contract through the 2024 season, Diggs knows he is with a team on the rise after the Seahawks surprisingly made the playoffs following the Russell Wilson trade.
The Seahawks are well-positioned to make further strides in 2023 and can afford to have aspirations of a Super Bowl run if things break right.
Having only enjoyed one playoff win in his NFL career, Diggs clearly wants to do whatever he can to put the Seahawks in a position to challenge for the Lombardi Trophy. If the restructure allows the Seahawks to get their rookies under contract, it will help their chances.
It remains to be seen whether Diggs will get to lift the Lombardi, but his post-retirement career could already be decided.
