It’s only Sam Darnold’s first season with the Seahawks and he’s already inserted his name into the same record book as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning

There is a portion of the Seattle Seahawks fan base that would have preferred keeping Geno Smith, who’s now with the Las Vegas Raiders, over signing Sam Darnold in the offseason. It’s safe to say, as Smith just threw another interception at the time of this writing, that those fans are no longer feeling that way.

Darnold has been amazing for the Seahawks. Have there been some bad moments? Of course. But he’s guided this team to a 13-win season. With that comes accolades.

Sam Darnold joins Tom Brady and Peyton Manning in the record books

According to the Seahawks PR team, quarterback Sam Darnold is now tied with Tom Brady and Jared Goff for the third-most consecutive seasons with 27 wins by a quarterback in NFL history. That alone is impressive and shows how much he has elevated both the Minnesota Vikings and, now, the Seahawks.

He also became the fifth quarterback in NFL history to record at least 13 wins in back-to-back seasons, joining Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers. Remember, he’s doing these types of things in just his first season with the Seahawks.

He only had 147 yards against the Panthers and an interception with a touchdown, but it was obvious that the passing game was not going to be the focal point of the offense. Instead, the passing game was used when they absolutely needed it most. The run game with Charbonnet, who had a career day in a way, was working just fine in the second half.

Carolina did everything they could to make sure Darnold struggled. According to Next Gen Stats, Darnold was blitzed on 54.8% of his dropbacks, his second-highest rate in a game this season. Still, Darnold completed 10 of 16 passes for 89 yards (1 TD, 1 INT) against the blitz. Give props to Carolina, as they completely took away the deep ball. Darnold completed 16 of 20 passes for 116 yards on attempts under 10 air yards.

Wins are a quarterback stat, though, and Darnold still got the win, while also joining Brady and Manning.
