The Seahawks were hoping their two starting offensive tackles would take the leap in 2023 after encouraging rookie seasons.

But injuries to both Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas have served to dampen that enthusiasm, and it isn't clear when the latter will play again in 2023.

Lucas, head coach Pete Carroll revealed on Friday, is set to undergo surgery on a knee injuury. He had already been placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next four games.

Carroll could not provide a definitive timeline for Lucas' return when asked in his final press conference ahead of Sunday's Week 2 game with the Lions.

But Carroll was upbeat when talking about Lucas' surgery, describing it is an operation that "we’ve done with a couple other guys that’s worked out really well".

He added: "It takes a little bit of time, we gotta see how it goes with him."

Cross will not play against Detroit as he deals with turf toe, though there is hope he could be back for the Week 3 game with the Panthers. The Seahawks this week signed veteran Jason Peters to the practice squad, but Carroll confirmed he will not play in Week 2.

Instead, Jake Curhan will start at right tackle with Stone Forsythe taking Cross' place on the left side.

Set to face a pass rusher in Aidan Hutchinson who had seven pressures for the Lions in the season opener against the Chiefs with two backup tackles, the Seahawks have an extremely difficult challenge ahead of them in Detroit as they aim to avoid an 0-2 start.
