Seattle's signing of Uchenna Nwosu in free agency last year proved an extremely astute one, and the Seahawks have rewarded the edge rusher with a there-year extension.

Nwosu was signed to a two-year, $19.05 million contract by the Seahawks in 2023, and that initial price proved a bargain. The former Charger racked up a career-high 9.5 sacks and 26 quarterback hits.

Per Pro Football Focus, Nwosu finished the season with 62 pressures, tied for 13th among edge rushers.

And the Seahawks appear confident Nwosu can improve on those numbers, confirming earlier reports of a contract extension that will pay him $59 million over three years.

Pressure off the edge, or lack thereof, has been a consistent problem for the Seahawks in recent seasons. Nwosu went some way to solving the issue with a strong start to his career in Seattle, but the Seahawks still added to their edge rushing options in the draft, spending a second-round pick on the position for the third successive year by selecting Derick Hall.

While they will want one of Hall, Darrell Taylor or Boye Mafe to make the leap and become a consistently disruptive pass rusher across from Nwosu, the Seahawks clearly believe the former USC defender has what it takes to repay their more substantial investment in his services.

An average salary of $19.6 million places more pressure on Nwosu to take the next step and establish himself as a premier NFL edge rusher. If he succeeds, the Seahawks will see his contract as tremendous value for money.
