Don't blink or else you may miss the Seattle Seahawks drafting another running back.

In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seahawks drafted UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet with the No. 52 overall selection, continuing the troubling trend of taking running backs for the sake of it in the NFL Draft.

For context, in recent history, the Seahawks have selected nine running backs since 2016. That is the most of any team in the NFL. And yes, you read that right. The Seahawks have drafted nine running backs in eight years.

Since 2016, Seattle running back draft selections are the following:

  • 2023 Round 2: Zach Charbonnet
  • 2022 Round 2: Kenneth Walker III
  • 2020 Round 4: DeeJay Dallas
  • 2019 Round 6: Travis Homer
  • 2018 Round 1: Rashaad Penny
  • 2017 Round 7: Chris Carson
  • 2016 Round 3: C.J. Prosise
  • 2016 Round 5: Alex Collins
  • 2016 Round 7: Zac Brooks

You can't make this up.

On the surface, it appears that the Seahawks have a viable one-two punch in Walker and Charbonnet. But there is validity in asking: is a running back worth it when the team still needs an interior offensive lineman? So far, the Seahawks have yet to make a move to fulfill that desire. Instead, they seem content drafting running backs on end with no resolution in sight.

Simply put, the pick of Charbonnet doesn't make much sense.
