Seahawks have a less than 2 percent chance of winning the Super Bowl in latest ESPN projection
ESPN’s 2023 Football Power Index is predicted an uphill battle for the Seattle Seahawks.
The trendy pick for having the best offseason around the NFL is the Seattle Seahawks.
But in the latest ESPN 2023 Football Power Index, the Seahawks were given a less than two percent chance at winning the Super Bowl.
Ahead of Seattle are a host of teams that include the Philadelphia Eagles, who lead the NFL with a 13.9 percent chance at winning the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs sit in second with 12.9 percent at winning the Super Bowl, and rounding out the top three is the San Francisco 49ers who have an 11.2 percent chance at winning the big game. Smack in the middle of the table are the Seahawks, who are the 14th-highest projected team to win the Super Bowl.
During free agency and the NFL Draft, the Seahawks addressed a large contingent of the team's offseason questions.
Starting quarterback Geno Smith was given a team-friendly extension. Bobby Wagner was brought back to address the linebacking question. Those moves were made against the backdrop of the Seahawks signing Dre'Mont Jones, Jarran Reed, Devin Bush, and Julian Love.
Through the draft, Seattle added a legitimate third wide receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who played a majority of his time in the slot at Ohio State. Additionally, the Seahawks addressed the question of depth on the offensive and defensive lines in the middle rounds of the draft by selecting Anthony Bradford, Cameron Young, Mike Morris, and Olusegun Oluwatimi. Lastly, the secondary questions were answered with the selection of cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
All in all, by most standards, the 2023 offseason has been a resounding success. But the Seahawks still have a few mountains to climb, according to ESPN.
To make the Super Bowl, Seattle's chances increase slightly (4.8 percent). As for making the conference championship game, ESPN places Seattle's chances at 11.3 percent. Seattle's chances of making the divisional playoff are 25.6 percent, and there is a 24 percent chance that the Seahawks win the division.
Where odds improve the flat projections for the Seahawks to make the playoffs. ESPN is generous in giving the Seahawks a 47.8 percent chance to make the postseason.
In 2022, Seattle punched above its weight. Already the 49ers have detailed how impressed they are with the Seahawks' offseason. But that praise hasn't resulted in the ESPN projections backing up what Seattle is building toward. Until football is played, however, these numbers are nothing but predictions.
