The defense has been the biggest limiting factor for the Seattle Seahawks over the past few years, and while the sample is relatively small during the first preseason game, it looks like there won't be much changing anytime soon.
The offense has been slow and somewhat hard to gauge, but the defense has been on the field enough to see where most of the depth unit is as.
The results haven't been great.
There are still a lot of guys on this unit that have a good bit of growing to do before the franchise is going to lean on them in key moments, but there is something to be said about simple mistakes happening over and over again.
The biggest issue so far? The tackling.
Start a counter now. The Hawks defenders have missed, easy, easy tackles more than once on every drive so far. Don't count on that to change all that much as the game progresses.
Again, it is a preseason game and this is more about the learning experience, but missing tackles as the Seahawks have is completely unacceptable. The defense could be dominating this (meaningless) game if they were just able to wrap up at or near the line of scrimmage.
It is only the first game and there is still a good bit of time left to play tonight, but an issue like this is going to have to be addressed as soon as possible if the Seahawks want to get their defense back to a spot of respect as they look to build on the unexpected success of last year.
Wrap up. It isn't really all that hard. At least the coaches know what to focus on for the next week of practice.
