Latest NFL Draft buzz surrounding the Seattle Seahawks and their early picks
The Seattle Seahawks will have a few decisions to make come the NFL Draft. This is a look at some of the latest draft buzz.
The Seattle Seahawks are walking into the NFL Draft with picks No. 5, 20, and 37.
Much of the discussion around the team is about whether they are going to select a quarterback early. And though that is a real possibility, a recent ESPN article rumored that the Seahawks could be heading in a completely different direction.
"The Seahawks might be checking in on the quarterbacks, but a source in Seattle said to expect defensive line help over quarterback at No. 5 overall," the ESPN article read. "That would seem to point to a belief that either Will Anderson Jr. (Alabama) or Jalen Carter (Georgia) will be available, a situation that's highly likely at this point. But here's one more Seattle nugget that throws a wrench in that: I was told it loves cornerback Devon Witherspoon (Illinois) if the top pass-rushers are gone."
It has been assumed that Seattle would opt for a quarterback because head coach Pete Carroll suggested the team would be very connected to this year's quarterback class because it was presented with a rare opportunity to pick early in the draft.
But as the pre-draft process has waned on, Seattle's connection to many of the quarterbacks has been apparent, but the willingness to use an early pick on the position feels distant.
Still, the organization may be willing to take a quarterback, if the right one is available at pick No. 5. But it remains just that, a possibility.
"It could happen," the article read. "The extra high-end draft capital gives the Seahawks some flexibility to make a long-term pick that won't help them right away, given that any quarterback they draft would sit for at least a year behind Geno Smith and perhaps Drew Lock, too. But they still have a few holes to fill — especially in their front seven — and they're low on both cap space and cash. So picking a quarterback in the first round would not only mean passing on their best chance to add badly needed difference-makers on defense, but it would also be an inefficient use of precious financial resources."
Seattle has had its eyes on the usual suspects at quarterback: Anthony Richardson, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, and Will Levis.
But only time will tell if Seattle actually uses its pick on a quarterback.
