The biggest drama of the NFL offseason continues, and all the Seattle Seahawks can do is sit back and laugh.

By this point, everyone has heard about the 49ers' decision to let it ride with Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold over Trey Lance. Again, it's just laughable.

It seems like there is almost no way that this plays out well for the 49ers at its current rate, and that works out just fine for the Seahawks.

Now look, no one is saying that Lance is a good quarterback now or that he is guaranteed to be a good quarterback down the road. However, making this decision after so few reps is genuinely laughable by a franchise that has apparently made a lot of the right decisions in recent years.

The 49ers have done everything right to win a Super Bowl other than address the quarterback issue. San Francisco kept getting just short of earning rings, and it usually came down to quarterback play that was mediocre relative to the rest of the roster.

Smartly acknowledging this, the 49ers traded up in a deep draft class to secure an X-factor at quarterback. Lance was very raw, but the upside was there to finally have a quarterback that wasn't simply going to succeed because of the dominant roster and a friendly scheme. Lance was supposed to be a driving force for the best team in the league.

The 9ers knew it would be a haul to get Lance into a position to meet the challenges and carry the team, and that is why it seems so silly that they would fall into the Jimmy Garoppolo trap again.

Mediocre quarterback play that gets propped up by a great roster doesn't help how they need it. It's nice to have, but it isn't going to win you championships. Purdy was exciting and fun in the moment, but he puts the 49ers right back where they were with Garoppolo.

The Seahawks can just laugh. Not only did a division opponent give up a mountain of capital for a raw quarterback that has barely played, but now they are moving away from that player, tanking his value, and destroying any chance he has of becoming a guy that could dominate the division for years to come.

This has been a blunder of the highest order by San Francisco, even if Lance flames out of the NFL altogether. The sample size of games just isn't there yet to make a firm decision on such an investment.

Regardless of how it plays out in the short term, this is sure to hurt the 49ers in the long run, and that might be just what Seattle needs to finally take control of the division back from the state of California.
