Seahawks release linebacker
According to Ari Meirov, Seattle is releasing starting LB Tyrel Dodson. He had started all nine games this season and totaled 71 tackles in those contests.
This is a surprising move for a team who is still competing to get to the postseason. Seattle's defense has been quite inconsistent this season, but Dodson has been a productive player in 2024.
Dodson was the Seahawks defender involved in a scuffle with Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua. Nacua was ejected from the teams' Week 9 game for throwing a punch.
With this decision, the Seahawks are effectively opening the door for younger options, though.
This move opens the doors for rookie fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight to get more snaps. He has played in eight games this season, totaling 23 tackles.
Undrafted LB Drake Thomas could also get an increase in playing time at weak-side linebacker. Ernest Jones IV is the starter at middle linebacker for Seattle now.
Moving on from Dodson will surprise many folks, but the youth movement on defense in Seattle has begun. We will see how it works out for the rest of this season.
