Recent Seahawks draft pick Mike Morris makes a promise the team is going to love
Seattle used one of its fifth-round picks on defensive end Mike Morris, and he made a promise to the organization that will be tough to live up to.
Mike Morris, the former Michigan Wolverine defender, had to wait until the fifth round to hear his name called in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Most with his talent would take that as a slight. But it appears that Morris is using the draft as motivation. After being drafted, Morris made a promise to the city of Seattle and the Seahawks organization that those who support the team and the individuals calling the shots will love to hear.
"They’re not wasting this pick on anybody," Morris said. "I’m going to give everything I have, all I got. They’re getting a monster.”
Already that work ethic is music to Seattle's ears. The Seahawks are a team in desperate need of an effective front line. During the 2022 season, Seattle was routinely gashed up front — unable to stop the run or create pressure on the quarterback.
Morris could be a remedy to that problem. Head coach Pete Carroll already sees him as a player who will do the dirty work that will make Seattle a more effective team on defense.
“He’s going to have his hand on the ground for the most part,” Carroll explained. “And a little bit of transition for that. He played there quite a bit, but we're going to play him there a lot."
Morris at Michigan was a tough competitor who managed to finish every play. As a member of the revamped Seattle defensive front, he will have ample opportunity to showcase exactly the type of player he is. And the good news for the Seahawks is he is playing with a massive chip on his shoulder.
“I feel like I didn’t really get to showcase who I really was in the last, back half of the season. I have a big chip on my shoulder and I’m just ready to unleash everything that I have in a big Seahawks uniform. I’m so excited to be a Seahawk. I’m ready to get after it and be great.”
It sounds exactly like he is exactly what Seattle was hoping for when the organization selected him midway through the fifth round.
