Today was a huge day for the Seattle Seahawks. Not only did Seattle best the most dangerous defense in football and win a nail-biter, but the division rival 49ers also lost.
Atop the division for the first time this season, things are certainly looking great for the Seahawks across the board.
It is absolutely on the table that they keep this lead for the rest of the year if the past month has been any indication.
At this point, it is hard to see the NFC West as anything more than a two-team race. Both the Seahawks and the 49ers have shared moments looking dominant this season, and it is obvious that both teams should make the playoffs in a very weak conference.
However, just sneaking into the playoffs shouldn’t be a goal for Seattle now.
As we have all seen, the Seahawks are dangerous on both sides of the ball and can do a lot to disrupt any team in the league. If the 49ers are set on running with a struggling quarterback and to shoot themselves in the foot with that decision, they are no longer the goliath they once were. This works very well for Seattle.
There is still a lot more season to play, but today did a lot to only strengthen the case for the team the Seahawks have produced. Scoring 24 against the Browns is no easy task. If Geno Smith and company can do that against Cleveland, they can do it against any team in the league.
Then, on the other side of the ball, that Cleveland offense has one of the best schemes in the league, but they are missing some key players. Still, even with those losses, the Browns haven’t struggled to score points this season. The Seattle defense shutting them down for the most part was another great step for the unit.
We may want to hold off on crowing anyone yet, especially with a lot of division games to play, but things are looking very good for the Seahawks as we near the halfway point of the season.
