It wasn't always pretty, but no full football season ever is.

After a slow start to the year with a loss to a less-than-stellar Rams team, the Seattle Seahawks have just moved to 1-1 with a win over the media darling Detroit Lions.

Seattle made a simple statement with this win: when it clicks, this team is as good as any in the NFC.

This may seem like a hot take to some of the cynics out there, but the Seattle team is constructed perfectly to be competitive in the modern NFL.

The defense definitely could use work, especially when you see how easy Detroit was able to score for most of the game, but offense is what defines the modern NFL, and Seattle was able to show up in this regard in a huge way against a relatively weak Detroit defense.

Geno Smith looked great, distributing the ball well and getting his stars involved early and often.

As for the play-calling, the pass-heavy approach was plenty to overcome the Lions secondary, and that is what most games will come down to when its all said and done.

This team has every piece to win games like this now and it still isn't completely healthy. Just imagine how Jamal Adams changes that equation.

There is still a lot of growing that needs to happen, and no one ever wants to put too much stock in the transitive property of sports, but the Seahawks putting up 37 on the Lions after the Chiefs only scored 20 is a good indicator of the top-end projection for this team, which is good enough for an NFC Championship.

Don't be surprised when this train starts picking up speed.
