Seahawks HC is licking his chops heading into the 2023 season
It’s easy to see why people are feeling good when it comes to what the Seahawks can do in 2023.
One of Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll's trademark qualities is his energy. He may be the NFL's oldest head coach at 70-years-old, but based off his day-to-day vibrancy, one could easily mistake him for a 35-year-old or even younger.
I mean, why wouldn't he be in great spirits? The Seahawks made not only one of the boldest moves of the 2022 season, but it also turned out to be one of -if not the- smartest moves of the year.
Not only did the decision to trade Russell Wilson work out, the Seahawks made the freakin' postseason thanks to a Pro Bowl-caliber year from Geno Smith.
Now, Smith is back in the saddle. The Seahawks have two picks in the first round, which includes the fifth-overall pick, and, the team has over $30 million in cap room before Smith's cap hit kicks in. The deal should be structured in a way where it doesn't completely kill the Seahawks' ability to make some moves in free agency, anyway.
"I think that the job that that [Seahawks GM] John [Schneider] and his guys have done to carry this thing from those moments that led to the decision to make the trade and all that and then all the way through," said Carroll. "It's just been a masterful job and then you can't you can't not recognize that… It's just given us such a such an opening to the opportunity.
"We're all having a blast. We can't wait for this thing to happen and the scenarios and all this stuff and all that we're talking about… And so we're really grateful for that."
Carroll's excitement was on full display during Wednesday's presser. You could literally feel the positive vibes through the screen.
And it's obvious he's totally stoked about where the team is headed in 2023.
"Without the hard work and the dedication and the trust in the people around you, it ain't gonna happen, you know," Carroll said in reference to how an elite work ethic leads to ultimate success. "But we [the Seahawks] got all that and so that's why we're so positive about it.
"That's why we know we're going places and it's kind of hard to wait."
It's not just about the Seahawks, though, it's also about the current state of the NFC West. The San Fransisco 49ers are one of the NFL's top teams, but they have major questions at signal-caller, whereas the 'Hawks don't. Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford are obviously still around, but Murray is coming off a torn ACL and the Los Angeles Rams are currently in disarray.
The NFC West is certainly there for the taking. Especially if the Seahawks can replicate the success they had in last year's draft.
It's easy to see why the vibe in Seattle is a strong one, right now. It's a good thing that the worst part about the offseason is the wait.
But as we all know: good things come to those who wait.
