The Seattle Seahawks' quarterback duo has proven to be resilient when the cards are stacked against either one of them.
In Week 15, Seahawks backup QB Drew Lock proved that he can come off the bench and win games, as evidenced by a late-game touchdown pass to receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to seal a win against defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The next week, starting QB Geno Smith returned, and led the team to victory over the Tennessee Titans thanks to a late-game touchdown pass to tight end Colby Parkinson. Both Smith and Lock won their games 20-17.
By getting wins in that particular fashion, the Seahawks became the second team in NFL history to have two different QBs throw a game-winning touchdown pass in the last minute of regulation in back-to-back games, according to the NFL on CBS.
The first QB duo to accomplish that feat? Dan Marino and Damon Huard of the Miami Dolphins in 1999. Not bad footsteps to follow.
This unique stat shows that Seattle is lucky to have two capable QBs that can win games in a pinch. Typically, that would breed some sort of a QB competition, but this case is a bit different. Smith is the clear starter in Seattle, but Lock has shown to have the confidence and guts to earn a much-needed win when called upon.
Even more importantly, that sort of clutch gene that the Seahawks' QB room seems to share will come in handy during playoff time. Luckily, Seattle controls its own destiny in regards to capturing a postseason spot.
