Seattle Seahawks fans are undoubtedly hyped about the latest news surrounding the team: Per Pro Bowl safety Quandre Diggs, the team has signed (re-signed) future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner. The Score's Jordan Schultz later reported it's a one-year deal worth $7 million.

Wagner was released in early of March 2022 because of the Seahawks' cap reasons. He wasn't on the market for long, as he signed a five-year, $50 million deal with the rival Los Angeles Rams about three weeks later. The Rams recently released Wagner because of their own cap reasons and that's how he ended up back in Seattle.

It's a great move for the Seahawks and honestly, it was a needed one. The team has some major holes at the linebacker position after losing Cody Barton in free agency and Jordyn Brooks to a torn ACL in Week 17. The team recently signed former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and former first-round pick Devin Bush, but there's a reason he didn't receive a second contract from the team that drafted him. He has talent, but his résumé speaks for it self and right now, Clint Hurtt can't rely on Bush to carry the load on the second level of the defense.

In all, the Seahawks didn't have any reliable linebacker prospects (pre-Brooks' return, of course) before signing Wagner. And speaking of Brooks' return, while every ACL recovery has its own story, Brooks' injury is a "legit" one. He had surgery on January 20 and it's typically an eight month recovery, which gives him a September 20 return if all goes well.

In other words: the Seahawks definitely needed a proven, reliable player to man one of their starting linebacker positions.

It also doesn't hurt that Wagner is one of the best players and most beloved players in franchise history. The Seahawks have really added some pieces when it comes to improving their front seven and Wagner is easily a part of that, as well.

Talk about a great way to start off Saturday night.
