The Seattle Seahawks were faced with a franchise-defining choice a few months back; do they make Geno Smith the face of their franchise?
As of now, that decision seemed like an easy one. However, there were plenty of chances for the Seahawks to make different choices with their most important position.
Between picks in the top-10 that could've been used on a quarterback to a scrappy Drew Lock that had plenty of support, the Seahawks had the chance to make themselves look silly right now. That hasn't happened, and now Seattle just looks smarter every week that passes with Smith playing as he has.
Opposing fans just need to face it; after winning Comeback Player of the Year last season and starting this year playing an extremely efficient brand of football, Smith is cementing himself as one of the 10-12 best quarterbacks in the NFL.
This is great news for a Seattle team that wasn't able to get all that much from Russell Wilson during the final years, and what makes this even better for the Seahawks is that Smith is one of the best bargains currently in the league.
Getting top-12 play from a guy that only costs $25 million per year is almost unheard of. That is what the Seahawks get for giving the guy a chance and rewarding him quickly.
As Smith keeps playing at this high level and the Seahawks keep winning, that deal only looks better.
The other thing that makes this move look good is just how bad the Broncos have been with Wilson as their quarterback. Wilson's stats might be there, but the overall play has been far below that of Smith, and the Seahawks were able to get better play out of a guy that essentially earned them draft picks and cap space.
Seems like a pretty great deal to this writer.
As long as Geno Smith is on this contract and playing at this level, the Seahawks are going to remain one of the bets teams in the NFL.
Few could've seen such an opportunity in a moment like this. Fortunately, the Seahawks did, and that is why they are reaping the benefits of it now.

They’ll be in much better shape.
