One Seattle Seahawks rookie has high odds to do something that has never been done in franchise history.
If you ask anyone that covers the team, the Seahawks draft was okay. They could have done better by addressing the biggest needs more. If you ask a lot of the fans, the draft class is amazing. They got two guys in the top 12, both of who will be huge for the teams' future success.
And both could be true. But, what you can't argue is that the Seahawks somehow got the best cornerback and wide receiver in this draft. They will have an elite playmaker on both sides of the ball.
For Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the sky is the limit. I mean, he has a chance to do something that has never been done in franchise history – win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
That's right, no Seahawks rookie has ever won the award, which is fine. Having guys who win that award don't mean anything 50 years from now. But, in the moment it's pretty cool, and it also helps put a trajectory on who that player will be. If he can win OROY, then he can only get better from there.
According to Vegas Insider, the rookie wide receiver from Ohio State has the sixth-highest odds. That sounds low, but when you think about how many rookies there are, sixth highest isn't bad, at all.
Smith-Njigba has lower odds than Bijan Robinson, Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Anthony Richardson. But, here is why I think Smith-Njigba's +1200 odds on Ceaser Sports Books are worth the bet.
Bryce Young, CJ. Stroud and Anthony Richardson are all quarterbacks of bad teams. Those teams don't give their quarterbacks the best chance to win in year one. Either they don't have weapons, their offensive line is bad, or they are just on a dysfunctional team in general.
The Seahawks are a team that will instantly give Smith-Njigba chances to win and grow every day. This is a team that made the playoffs last year. They have an established quarterback with an established head coach.
Let's take it back to 2020, the last time a quarterback won the award. The last two winners have been receivers. So, it makes all the sense in the world. Take that bet while you still can, and let's hope Smith-Njigba does something special. The best part is, no Seahawks player has ever won OROY. He would be the first ever.
