It has been a rough couple of years, but the Seattle Seahawks are finally exciting again.
As surprising as it might sound, the team has bounced back from moving on from one of the best players in franchise history almost immediately, and the hopes are high that 2023 could see a return to glory for a sneaky-good Seahawks team.
One player that could make a huge difference for Seattle is defensive weapon and former All-Pro Jamal Adams.
Adams may be listed as a safety, but his real strength as a player comes from his ability to line up almost anywhere and find a way to disrupt play.
His coverage skills haven't been what they once were during his time in Seattle, but there are very few safeties in the league that can compete with a healthy Jamal Adams as a tackler and pass rusher.
Adams just has a way of getting into the backfield, a fact that was written in stone with his 9.5 sack-2023 season. If that guy can make a return in the upcoming season, this Seahawks defense may finally get back to a respectable level as a whole.
However, that is easier said than done. Not that Adams isn't the player he once was, but it is harder to play that very physical brand of football for a guy that struggles with injuries, and Adams absolutely has worn the moniker of "injury-prone" during his time in Seattle.
In addition, Adams does help against the pass as a pass-rusher, but it would help overall to see him gain some of his skills against the pass that he showed while he was with the Jets. No one would go back and call Adams a ball hawk during his time in New York, but he was able to do enough to stay in the conversation for best pure safety in the NFL with some production on the ball.
One way or another, this season is going to come down to how the big names step up for the Seahawks, and it is hard to see a player being more important to feast or famine than Jamal Adams once he gets back from his injury.
