There have been a variety of reactions geared toward the NFL's decision to give teams the chance of calling fair catch during a kickoff and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll's comment is easily one of the best.

"We're going to compete with it. We're going to use it to our advantage," Carroll told reporters Thursday. "We're pretty good in those areas… I don't think it's going to be that dramatic a change. I think teams are going to want to compete and want to bring the ball out. That's really all it is, if you're going to take it to the 25 (yard line) or not. We'll compete with it, and see how we look, and see if our core group can continue to give us good work like we've always counted on.

"I'm not thinking we're taking a knee on everything, now. We're going to be very aggressive about it.”

Per Football Outsiders, the Seahawks finished fourth in overall special teams DVOA last year, which is pretty remarkable considering the unit finished with an overall ranking of 29th in 2021. It also managed to do this with top-7 disadvantages in both out-of-control circumstances and weather advantages, per FO.

In other words: Larry Izzo and co. are going to find a way to get things done in 2023.
