Sometimes, roster moves have unintended consequences. Earlier this week, the Seattle Seahawks waived interior defensive lineman Quinton Bohanna from the 53-man roster. According to ESPN Seahawks reporter Brady Henderson, the idea was to have him back on the practice squad.

However, things didn’t go according to this plan. The Green Bay Packers claimed Bohanna off waivers, absorbing his old deal with the Seahawks and making him a part of their 53-man roster.

Why the Seahawks made the move

The Seahawks needed Bohanna’s roster spot because they activated defensive tackle Jarran Reed off injured reserve — curiously enough, Reed has already played a season for the Packers.

Bohanna is not necessarily a huge loss or anything, but he did offer depth along the interior of the defensive line. He played 32 defensive snaps and two special teams snaps for Seattle this season.

Bohanna was a sixth-round pick back in 2021 by the Dallas Cowboys. He has also played for the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans. Originally, the defensive tackle had signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad back in September of 2024, appearing in only one game last season.

After spending this year’s training camp on the 90-man roster, he was waived again during final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad. He had been promoted to the active roster in November.

The Seahawks’ starting trio along the interior has Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II, and Reed. The backup options are former fifth-round pick Mike Morris and nose tackle Brandon Pili, who’s been in Seattle since last season after being claimed off waivers from the Miami Dolphins.

Even though losing Bohanna wasn’t ideal, the Seahawks should be happy to have Reed back on the active roster. A second-round pick in 2016, he spent his first five seasons in Seattle before playing for the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. He’s been back with the Seahawks since 2023 as a useful and well-rounded defensive tackle. This year, he’s appeared in eight games, with 14 pressures and eight run stops.
