Don’t look now, but the Seattle Seahawks just beat the best defense in the NFL and were able to score 24 points while doing it.

The game was far from perfect, but that was the exact type of gritty, wire-to-wire game that the Seahawks have to be able to win to make noise in the playoffs.

The journey be damned, the Seahawks have officially proven that they are the real deal when it matters.

Today’s game started off well for the Seahawks. A couple of early and creative touchdowns and struggles for the Browns put Seattle in a comfortable position, but teams like the Browns are almost impossible to put away, even with their starting quarterback and running back out.

If that isn’t a testament to great coaching and roster construction, this writer isn’t sure what more you could want to see.

The Browns were able to crawl back in part due to some picks thrown by Geno Smith and were able to capitalize well.

However, in the end, one of the most talented offenses in the NFL was able to win the game when it mattered, and that is all Pete Carroll could ever want from this group.

You don’t construct an offense like this without games like today in mind. With the game on the line, Smith and company marched down the field and scored a touchdown to take the lead.

The day wasn’t perfect, but again, perfect games rarely happen in the playoffs. Messy games like today will be far more common as the year progresses, and the win tells us a lot about the resolve of this team.
