D'Wayne Eskridge was suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season on Friday for a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy, and the Seahawks wide receiver has now explained the reason why.

Shortly after news of the suspension broke, Eskridge released a statement through his agency, Wasserman.

The statement, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, revealed the breach of the conduct policy was related to an arrest back in February.

It read:

"In early February 2023, D'Wayne was involved in an unfortunate incident with his child's mother, which resulted in his arrest and the filing of misdemeanor charges. D'Wayne quickly took responsibility for his role in this incident. D'Wayne entered an agreement whereby the misdemeanor charges will be dismissed in 12 months when he completes domestic violence moral recognition therapy. D'Wayne has already enrolled in and has begun therapy. D'Wayne has not been convicted of any crime. He entered into this agreement because it is in the best interest of his family. D'Wayne deeply regrets any embarrassment this incident has caused his family, the Seahawks and the NFL."

Eskridge was a second-round pick of the Seahawks in 2021, but has had little opportunity to vindicate that status due to a succession of injuries.

He has played 20 games in two seasons and caught 17 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in that time.

Eskridge will now have to wait until Week 8 to feature in the 2023 campaign. The Seahawks have a bye in Week 5. He is still permitted to feature in preseason games.
