Seahawks Super Hero Schedule Release

The Seahawks–like many NFL franchises–got incredibly creative with their official schedule announcement on social media, posting a fun video and super hero themed release thread.

While it may not have been the absolute best schedule release among the 32 teams, the Seahawks clearly put some fun effort into it for the fans. And the schedule packs some punches with some amazing matchups throughout the year!

Biggest Games on the Seahawks 2024 Schedule

Both 49ers Matchups: The 49ers are the betting favorite to win the Super Bowl right now, so both games against them will be important for multiple reasons. If the Seahawks can somehow manage to win one or both games against the 49ers that will go a long way towards potentially winning the NFC West and/or making the playoffs. How they handle the key matchups and what they learn in those two games could define an inevitable playoff rematch as well.

Seahawks at Falcons: The Falcons will look a lot different with Kirk Cousins at quarterback this year. They won't be a push over. This matchup will be one the Seahawks are favored to win and must take down if they want to pad their conference record in any playoff tie-break scenario.

Seahawks at Lions: The Lions just keep getting better and they're a highly likely NFC Championship opponent for the Seahawks (or whoever makes it that far). If the Seahawks can beat the Lions in their own house that could be the final step in pushing the Seahawks into a near top-seed playoff spot.

Primetime Matchups and Streaming Service Broadcasts

Which games will be primetime viewing?

The Seattle Seahawks got a healthy dose every kind of primetime game without cutting into important holiday time with family this year (on Thanksgiving or Christmas). They drew one Monday, one Sunday, and two Thursday night games that all bring their own bit of unique intrigue.

  • Week 4 at Detroit Lions Monday Night Football – The Lions are a favorite to push their way back to a potential NFC Championship game. If the Seahawks can hold their own here it may signify that they're a real contender in 2024.
  • Week 6 vs San Francisco 49ers Thursday Night Football – This is the first of two divisional matchups against this past season's Super Bowl runner-up. Winning at least one of the games against the 49ers will be absolutely paramount if the Seahawks want to be in the mix to win the NFC West.
  • Week 15 vs Green Bay Packers Sunday Night Football – These long-time rivals always seem to cause some drama in primetime games against each other. Jordan Love continues to emerge as a real threat at quarterback, but the Seahawks could shut that down real quick forcing them out of a playoff spot potentially late in the season.
  • Week 17 at Chicago Bears Thursday Night Football – Facing off against the number one overall pick in Caleb Williams who spent much of his time playing games out on the west coast will bring plenty of fanfare when he faces off against Seattle, even if one of these teams struggles for much of the year.

Which games will you need streaming services to watch?

Seahawks fans might as well get Prime Video if they don't have it already. There are two separate Thursday Night Football Seahawks games available only on Prime Video this season against the 49ers and the Bears.

The good news is that those two games are the only two "streamers" fans will have to engage with for the 2024 NFL season unless the Week 18 gets flexed into some special primetime slot.

Strength of Schedule (based off Vegas win totals, not 2023 record)

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis ranks strength of schedule for all 32 NFL teams every year based off of Vegas' projected win totals for all their opponents in the upcoming season. This makes more sense than simply combining win-loss record from the previous season because rosters are so drastically different year over year.

As of this writing, Sharp has the Seahawks with a pretty average schedule for the 2024 season, ranking the 15th easiest. With a neutral schedule this year the Seahawks will get a good look at whether Geno Smith should deserve another extension beyond his next two years that he's already signed on for with the team.

Revenge Games on the Seahawks 2024 schedule

  • Geno Smith at the New York Jets: Geno Smith gets to face off against the team that drafted him and subsequently almost ruined his career. And this time he gets to face off against the QB who is supposed to "save the Jets" and take them to the Super Bowl. It would be a perfect opportunity to silence the last of his critics by defeating the Jets in their house.
  • Leonard Williams against the New York Giants: The Giants completely misused Leonard Williams' talents when he was with them just two short years ago. Instead of signing him to a long-term deal they opted to invest in the horrible quarterback play of Daniel Jones. Great revenge opportunity.
  • Jordyn Brooks & Jerome Baker in the Miami Dolphins game: The Seahawks let linebacker Jordyn Brooks walk after racking up over 500 tackles for them in his first four seasons. And the Dolphins let linebacker Jerome Baker walk after spending his first six seasons with them. Both players essentially just directly replaced each other on the Seahawks and Dolphins. Both linebackers likely play just a little bit harder to let their former team know they made a mistake letting them go.

5 Must-watch Matchups

  • Tariq Woolen & Devon Witherspoon vs. Justin Jefferson: Tariq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon are completely different corners, but both could match up well regardless of how the Vikings try to deploy Justin Jefferson. Witherspoon can follow him into the slot. Woolen can jam him and win with length on the outside.
  • Byron Murphy vs. Chris Lindstrom: Chris Lindstrom is one of the best offensive guards in the league (if not the best) at pass protection. Byron Murphy, the Seahawks new first round pick, had the highest pass rush pressure rate among all defensive tackles in the 2024 NFL Draft class. If he proves to be too much for Lindstrom, the Seahawks may have a truly special talent on their hands.
  • Geno Smith vs. Ahmad Gardner and the Jets secondary: This is a great opportunity for Geno Smith further prove that he is a worthy and strong NFL starter in the league, getting revenge on his old team, defeating one of the best secondaries in the game. Gardner will talk some trash and likely get into it with Metcalf all game long.
  • Seahawks Interior Offensive Line vs. San Francisco 49ers Pass Rush: The weak spot on the Seahawks this year should be interior offensive line. A new, older left guard, young center, and potential rookie at right guard if Christian Haynes earns his spot. The 49ers' pass rush is most ferocious off the edge, but stunts will come through the interior knowing that's a weak spot for the Seahawks. This could define every single game they play against the 49ers this season.
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba vs Brian Branch: The future of Jaxon Smith-Njigba as a potential focal point of the Seahawks offense may hinge on his development this year. And the outcome of the game against the Detroit Lions this season may depend on how well he plays against their all-star slot defensive back Brian Branch. If he can burn him for a few plays that could be swing one of the most important games of the year.
