Many NFL Draft media members and Seahawks fans thought the team may prioritize offense early in the second round given the issues with the offensive line and aging wide receiver room (outside of Jaxon Smith-Njigba), but general manager John Schneider and company apparently had other plans completely.
Apparently the Seahawks staff wants to bring back the Legion of Boom based off their trade up and selection of Nick Emmanwori, the hyper-athletic safety from South Carolina.
Heading into day two of the 2025 NFL Draft the Seahawks held two picks in both round two and round three. Instead of holding their spot Seattle made the trade up to pick 35 to select Emmanwori.
In order to do so they had to send both pick 52 and 82 overall to the Tennessee Titans. Why was it a great move? And why could this confirm desires to bring back the Legion of Boom?
Nick Emmanwori, a former Freshman All-American, put together a phenomenal three-year career with the South Carolina Gamecocks as he tallied nearly 250 tackles, six interceptions, 11 passes defended, and two pick-six touchdowns throughout his time with the Gamecocks.
He was lights out in coverage this past year, allowing a passer rating when targeted below 40 (basically on par with a standard incomplete pass). He was truly excellent in coverage thanks to his elite athletic profile. But he was also an enforcer, reminiscent of Legion of Boom member and former Seahawks superstar safety Kam Chancellor.
In fact, Emmanwori and Chancellor were even coached by the same defensive backs coach in Torrian Gray. Gray was with Virginia Tech back when Chancellor was in school. He's been with South Carolina since 2021.
Emmanwori was one of the best tackling defensive backs in all of college football two seasons in a row, missing just 7% of his tackle attempts on the last 1500 snaps, bringing the "boom" consistently.
The Seahawks already have a strong set of physical and athletic defensive backs in Julian Love, Coby Bryant, Tariq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon, and Josh Jobe. Emmanwori's versatility and physicality should just add the finishing touches to the new era Legion of Boom in Seattle.
Nick Emmanwori Scouting Report
Safety, South Carolina
Age (Birthday): 21 (02/07/2004)
A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 33
Pre-Draft Round Projection: 2
Nick Emmanwori tested as a 100th percentile athlete at the safety position at the NFL Combine this spring, which sent his draft stock skyrocketing. His rise might have been too high of a leap, considering where he ranks on our consensus board (a Top 40 player), and teams might differ on where he should play at the next level. He's typically thought of as a box safety, but he might be better off playing deep, using his athleticism and ball skills to roam sideline-to-sideline moving forward as a gifted ballhawk.
Career Projection: Boom Bust Starter Potential
Seattle Seahawks might have missed their first choice, but Grey Zabel is exactly what the team needed in the 2025 NFL Draft
The Seattle Seahawks had an absolutely terrible offensive line in 2024. On Thursday night general manager John Schneider did his best to try and fix that in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The entire offensive line group for Seattle surrendered over 250 pressures in pass protection and nearly 40 sacks on the […]
