NFL ruins Tariq Woolen’s good vibes following Seahawks’ big win over Commanders in Week 9
Not the news Woolen wanted to hear.
The Seattle Seahawks got a dominant 38-14 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football in Week 9.
The win elevated the Seahawks to a 6-2 record, which is tied with the Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Los Angeles Rams for the best in the NFC. Unfortunately, competition is tight, as they are barely edging out the Rams and the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC West lead.
Seattle was in control over the Commanders from the get-go, jumping out to a 28-0 lead after its first four possessions of the game. Unfortunately, an incident occurred early in the fourth quarter that will bring the good vibes down for cornerback Tariq Woolen following the big win.
NFL fines Seahawks CB Tariq Woolen
Woolen has been fined $11,593 by the league for taunting, which falls under the category of unsportsmanlike conduct. After tackling Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Woolen stood over him and exchanged some words. He received a 15-yard penalty on the play (H/T Michael-Shawn Dugar).
It may seem soft (it is), but for better or worse, the NFL is cracking down on players conducting themselves more professionally, which includes less trash talking and gesturing. Fortunately, the Seahawks already had this game well in hand, and the incident had no consequence on the result.
However, hopefully Woolen learns from this so he doesn’t have a repeat offense during a critical part of a game sometime in the future. He and the Seahawks will put this behind them as they get set to host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
As mentioned above, Seattle needs to keep pace not just for the division lead, but for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Taking care of business against an inferior Cardinals team is a must. The Seahawks will then have a crucial showdown against the Rams in Week 11.
