The Seattle Seahawks were always one of the NFL teams who could be looking to select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. Yes, the team just signed Sam Darnold to a three-year contract, but it's really more like a two-year deal given the structure.

As day two of the NFL Draft continued to progress with Shedeur Sanders (QB, Colorado) still on the board, speculation about his potential fit with the Seahawks began to circulate around NFL media. However, instead of picking Sanders, general manager John Schneider surprised the draft world by selecting Jalen Milroe, QB Alabama.

Hopefully for Seahawks fans this third round quarterback selection goes as well as the last one the team made back in 2012 when Seattle drafted Russell Wilson. Wilson of course went on to have some wild success early on in his career, leading the Seahawks to a Super Bowl.

Jalen Milroe was a surprise pick with the Seahawks for multiple reasons. One, despite Shedeur Sanders still being available through three rounds of selections, most NFL Draft analysts believed that Sanders would come off the board far before Milroe. Two, Milroe is nothing like Sam Darnold stylistically, athletically, or even really schematically given his body of work at Alabama. However, Seahawks fans should still be ecstatic about the possibilities with Milroe.

Milroe's misses on short to intermediate throws have been well documented throughout this 2025 NFL Draft season, but he also possesses a rocket arm to pull off some "wow" throws deep down field. If he can clean up the easy stuff Milroe should be a perfect fit with new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's scheme one day.

Kubiak loves to utilize play action, taking strategic deep shots down field while stressing defenses in all directions with a diverse rushing attack. Kubiak has never had an athlete at quarterback anywhere near Milroe's abilities with his legs, so that might unlock something that Seahawks fans have never really seen at their QB position one day soon.

A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 44

Pre-Draft Round Projection: 2

All of the talk has gone toward Jaxson Dart as the most intriguing quarterback in this class, but that label should go to Jalen Milroe. We've seen the hyper athletic quarterback with elite arm talent get selected early. Josh Allen was the major hit of the group, but the bets on Malik Willis and Anthony Richardson have yet to yield positive returns. Will that be the same for Milroe? He's got two things on both Willis and Richardson: two years of high-level SEC play with flashes of brilliance and significant growth mechanically in the pre-draft process.

Milroe also has had some discussions about him converting to running back due to his size, vision, and 4.4-second forty-yard dash. He deserves every opportunity to be a quarterback, as he could grow into an elite passer in the NFL if given the same development plan as Jalen Hurts, especially since his comp for me is the the Lamborghini version of Hurts. Overall, Milroe is the biggest risk/reward quarterback in this class who could be anywhere from the tier of Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson to being used solely for wildcat packages. – Tyler Forness of A to Z Sports
