The Seattle Seahawks had an absolutely terrible offensive line in 2024. On Thursday night general manager John Schneider did his best to try and fix that in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The entire offensive line group for Seattle surrendered over 250 pressures in pass protection and nearly 40 sacks on the season last year. The only consistent pass blocker on the team was left tackle Charles Cross, so the Seahawks knew they had at least one edge of the offensive line taken care of heading into the draft.

It was obvious they would take an offensive lineman and decided to select Grey Zabel, a player who could help improve the interior offensive line or take over the right tackle position.

Dating back to the NFL Combine there were many that believed Tyler Booker may have actually been the Seahawks' first choice in the first round given his ability to dominate the interior far better than any other offensive guard in the 2025 NFL Draft class. The team met formally with Booker at the Combine and the fit made sense. Unfortunately Booker went far ahead of the Seahawks' first pick.

The good news is that Grey Zabel may even be a better fit. He played over 1,000 snaps at right tackle and nearly 700 snaps on the inside as well. Wherever the Seahawks need him to play he can likely make it work. That gives the team flexibility as they head into day two to continue filling out the offensive line without worrying about the exact position they select.

Grey Zabel Scouting Report

Offensive Line, North Dakota State

Age
(Birthday): 23 (03/20/2002)

A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 36

Pre-Draft Round Projection: 2

After starting his career moving between guard and right tackle, Grey Zabel emerged as North Dakota State's foundational star along the line as he grew into his frame. He went completely unranked or rated as a high school football recruit, but he was a three-sport star. Given that, Zabel certainly fits the label of unheralded and gritty. But he's also a tremendous athlete who was clearly overlooked just simply due to where he was located growing up.

Career Projection: Eventual Good Starter
