Seattle Seahawks come in surprisingly low in NFL power rankings following free-agent signings
Despite the numerous moves the Seattle Seahawks made to start free agency, the Seahawks came in surprisingly low in latest NFL power rankings.
The latest slate of NFL power rankings is forcing the Seattle Seahawks to limit their celebration of a seemingly productive early portion of the offseason.
Seattle re-signed starting quarterback Geno Smith on a team-friendly deal. The Seahawks also signed Dre’Mont Jones, Julian Love, and Jarran Reed. On the surface, that looks like enough, but if you ask Dalton Miller of Pro Football Network, there is still more to be done for Seattle.
In Miller's latest mock draft, the Seahawks came in ranked 18th, five spots behind the Carolina Panthers and one spot ahead of the Los Angeles Rams.
Take a look at what Miller had to say about Seattle's offseason:
The Seattle Seahawks got an absolute bargain with the three-year deal that Geno Smith signed. Adding Dre’Mont Jones to a defense that loves sliding defensive linemen up and down the defensive front is a fantastic match, as was adding Julian Love to a secondary that needed some versatility. Jarran Reed was a relatively inexpensive signing, and adding a bit of offensive line depth with Evan Brown certainly doesn’t hurt the roster. Seattle still has quite a few of their own free agents to decide on, and with only 53 players currently signed, they’ll need to start getting on with moves in the second week of free agency.
A Super Bowl isn't won in March. But it can be lost if the wrong moves are made. Seattle has taken a cautious approach, instead of overpaying for names, it has opted to plug its holes while waiting for the NFL Draft to fill the other spots on the roster.
Still, it is hard to believe that the Seahawks haven't had a better offseason run than the Carolina Panthers.
With the new league year starting on Wednesday of last week, the Seahawks still have plenty of time to get more deals done.
