The Seattle Seahawks are clearly eyeing a significant boost to their edge pass rush in the 2024 NFL Draft.

With Penn State's Chop Robinson having already been confirmed as visiting with the Seahawks, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Seattle will host Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse for a top-30 visit later on Tuesday.

Verse is considered a contender to be the first edge rusher off the board this month in Detroit. He and UCLA's Laitau Latu are regarded as the top two players in the class at the position.

But the Seahawks would clearly be interested in his services if Verse falls to them with the 16th overall pick.

An explosive speed to power rusher, Verse had nine sacks in each of his two seasons with Florida State.

He finished with 62 pressures last season, per Pro Football Focus, tied with Latu for the fifth-most among edge rushers in the 2024 class with at least 100 pass rush snaps.

Verse was tied fourth with a pass rush win rate of 21.8 percent.

Seattle's pass rush finished the 2023 season 15th with a pressure rate of 36.1 percent, per Sports Info Solutions.

Uchenna Nwosu (9.5 in 2022), Darrell Taylor (9.5 in 2022) and Boye Mafe (9 in 2023) have all enjoyed nine-sack campaigns in the last two seasons, but consistency has been absent from the Seattle pass rush in recent years.

Verse would give them a high-floor, high-ceiling edge rusher with the potential to change that in a hurry. 

New Seahawks head coach Mike MacDonald oversaw one of the best defenses in the NFL in 2023 in his final season as Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator. He and general manager John Schneider obviously see an improvement in the Seahawks' edge rushing options as key to helping the Seattle defense reach similar heights.
