Following a season-ending injury to starting middle linebacker Cole Holcomb, Pittsburgh has been preparing for what's next at the position.
With former Pro Bowl LB Kwon Alexander stepping into an expanded role, that means the players behind him also have to step up.
One of those players is converted safety Tariq Carpenter, who will make his black and gold debut against the very team that drafted him and let him go just a few months ago:
Revenge Game
Carpenter was a 7th-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2022 NFL Draft. A converted safety, Carpenter played DB at Georgia Tech before converting to LB in the pre-draft All-Star circuit, managing to turn enough heads at the Senior Bowl and during his Pro Day to get drafted at a position he never even played:
Carpenter would go on to play in 14 games for the Packers last season, but the team decided to move on from the former day-three pick, leading him to be signed to the Steelers practice squad.
Now looking to make his debut for Pittsburgh against the very team that let him walk, the Steelers will be unleashing not only a young and feisty talent, but one that is motivated to show his former team that they made a mistake, and that he does in fact belong in the National Football League.
