Steelers HC Mike Tomlin reports no players on PUP list to start camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not immune to the struggles that every NFL team faces this time of year.

But they are in rarified air when it comes to one the most important aspects of team success in the NFL.

So if the saying "health is wealth" is true, Pittsburgh may have just hit the lottery:

Steelers Open Camp With Zero Players On PUP List

During head coach Mike Tomlin’s presser that kicked off training camp, he informed the media that no members of the Steelers are going to start on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, with the team under a clean bill of health to start the season.

And while that's a great place to be, it's also a rare one, even for this time of year. Most teams have plenty of names on the PUP list, even if they got through OTA's and minicamp unscathed.

That's because teams often have players rehabbing injuries that occurred during the regular season of the following year, making them incapable of practicing and thus allowing the team to use the roster spot on someone that can play, or "give us a look" as ball coaches love to say.

Now the hard part will be keeping everyone off the list, or what will soon become the injured reserve. Obviously, injuries are part of the game, and the Steelers will run a physical camp, but teams across the league know how important it is to get players to the season in one piece.

So it won't be easy, but fingers crossed things stay similar in Pittsburgh over the next three weeks.
