Christmas weekend may be fast approaching, but the Steelers aren't exactly in a festive mood as of late.

In the middle of a losing skid and dealing with all sorts of drama, the state of the building is far from jolly.

Their latest move proves just that:

Steelers Cut Anthony McFarland Jr.

The Steelers released running back Anthony McFarland Jr. today.
McFarland spent time on the Reserve/Injured List earlier this year and has only played in three games this season.

McFarland was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has played in 17 career games and has 42 carries for 146 career yards. He also has 11 receptions for 87 yards. -Teresa Varley, Steelers PR

McFarland was a standout back in training camp and the preseason, adding a dynamic to the backfield as a pass catcher while being the team's primary returner.

But following a lower-body injury in Week 1, McFarland was placed on I.R. and struggled to get his job as the returner back following strong performances from Godwin Igwebuike.

So with multiple injuries on the defense, Pittsburgh had to make a couple roster moves to sure up space to likely sign two players to the active roster ahead of the Bengals game.

Unfortunately, it came at the cost of McFarland.
